Field Survey Engineer

The Field Survey Engineer is a field-based role supporting Fiber (FTTH) and telecom/utility projects through accurate data collection, equipment operation, and site documentation. This position plays a key role in ensuring quality field data to support engineering and development teams.

Primary Functions:

  • Conduct field data collection using electronic devices, image-capturing software, sketches, and detailed notes
  • Verify field data for completeness and accuracy
  • Operate company vehicles equipped with LiDAR systems
  • Capture utility pole data, photographs, and site conditions
  • Use Google Earth (.KMZ) files for navigation and project referencing
  • Set up and operate survey equipment including total stations, GPS/Trimble units, data collectors, levels, and terrestrial LiDAR systems
  • Maintain survey equipment, electronics, and field tools
  • Work both independently and with survey crews under direction of the Lead Surveyor

Work Environment:

  • Outdoor field work in varying weather conditions
  • Frequent travel across the U.S.
  • Physically active role requiring walking 3–5 miles daily on uneven terrain

Compensation Structure

  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Pay Rate: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour (based on experience)

Training Overview

New hires will receive structured training to ensure safe and effective field performance.

Training includes:

  • Orientation on company safety standards and field protocols
  • Hands-on training in:
    • Electronic data collection tools
    • Utility pole measurement techniques
    • Image documentation standards
  • Introduction to survey equipment operation (Total Stations, GPS/Trimble, Levels)
  • Practical exposure to terrestrial LiDAR systems
  • Vehicle and equipment handling procedures
  • Data quality and documentation standards

Training is conducted through a combination of classroom instruction, shadowing experienced field staff, and supervised field assignments until proficiency is demonstrated.
