Quality Assurance Tech - California

TITLE: Quality Assurance Technician

REPORTS TO: Manager-Quality Assurance

SUMMARY

This California-based Quality Assurance (QA) Technician works within an assigned region, across all profit centers and services, to proactively monitor and improve quality. The initial focus will be on detailed overhead pole inspection/survey for NESC and GO95 compliance. The QA Technician will work collaboratively with Foremen, Technicians, and field management (Supervisors, Managers, Directors) to conduct and document field inspections of in-progress and completed work on utility structures to assure the quality of services and data delivered to customers. The position requires the ability to perform strenuous, outdoor work, in addition to excellent communication, coaching, inter-personal, and computer skills, and will require occasional overnight travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Perform quality control (QC) inspections of utility structure and equipment inspections, treatment, restorations, and repairs.

o Review customer-provided data and data collected by Osmose crews.

o Evaluate decay, corrosion, and damage (insect, animal, mechanical).

o Evaluate measurements and other collected data.

o Ensure inspection, treatment, restoration, repair, and other services are performed and completed in accordance with Osmose requirements and customer specifications.

o Evaluate quality of all aspects of work and final determinations of structure accessibility, condition, and status (e.g., reject, priority).

o Document QC inspection results, non-conformances, and other quality-related issues, and communicate these findings, and recommendations for corrective and preventive actions, verbally and in writing.

· Provide in-field training and mentoring to new field management on quality assurance and control procedures.

· Conduct audits to assess field management quality assurance capability and accuracy of QC inspections.

· Assist with and/or review investigations into quality-related issues; recommend and monitor corrective and preventive actions.

· Monitor quality performance metrics and trends (leading and lagging indicators) and recommend and support corrective actions to improve.

· Assist with the communication, implementation, and oversight of quality-related policies, programs, and procedures.

· Assist with development and delivery of quality-related communications and training (alerts, bulletins, meetings, presentations, videos, etc.)

· Represent Quality and support Operations during customer visits and interactions.

REQUIREMENTS

· High school diploma or general education degree (GED); some college coursework or college degree preferred (associates, bachelors)

· Prior experience in the utility industry—preferably involving utility structures (e.g., poles towers, foundations) with an emphasis on utility pole surveying/detailed overhead inspection, pole loading, make ready, and NESC and GO95 code/violations.

· Valid state driver’s license.

· Ability to read and follow maps, understand and follow complex procedures and specifications, and utilize field data collection devices (e.g., laptop, tablet).

· Experienced and adept at coaching employees, working with difficult people, and resolving difficult situations.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to speak clearly and confidently to employees, supervisors, and managers. Must be able to write using proper spelling, grammar, and style.

· Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and drive. The position also requires the employee to bend, crouch, kneel, squat, stoop, reach, lift up to 25 pounds, utilize hand and power tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, drill), and work with chemicals (including pesticides).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Position requires often working alone in remote outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, freezing temperatures, uneven terrain, and exposure to poisonous plants, insects, animals, and allergens. The employee may also be exposed to chemicals (e.g., pesticides, coatings), energized electrical equipment, and noise exceeding 85 decibels.

TRAVEL

Position requires some overnight, regional (multi-state), and national travel.
