Position Summary:


As the Director of Preservative and Protective Products, you will play a pivotal leadership role in driving innovation and delivering high-impact chemical product solutions that support Osmose's global mission. You will lead the strategic direction, development, and commercialization of our chemical products portfolio—including managing R&D initiatives from ideation through product launch.
This highly visible, cross-functional role requires a unique combination of deep technical knowledge, operational excellence, and visionary leadership. You will oversee two direct reports and collaborate with scientists, engineers, regulatory experts, and commercial teams to expand market share, enhance product performance, and maintain our leadership in wood protection technologies.
This position is ideal for a strategic leader who thrives on innovation, fosters high-performing teams, and embraces the challenge of transforming scientific research into scalable, compliant, and market-ready solutions across multiple international regions (U.S., Canada, Australia, U.K., Ireland).

Key Responsibilities:


Strategic Leadership & Team Management
•    Lead and mentor a team of technical professionals, including two direct reports.
•    Shape and execute a regional and global innovation strategy for chemical products.
•    Cultivate a culture of excellence, innovation, and accountability within the R&D team.
•    Allocate resources, manage departmental budgets, and oversee staff performance and development.
Product Innovation & Development
•    Guide the end-to-end lifecycle of chemical products—from concept, feasibility, development, and regulatory approval to commercialization.
•    Direct research into novel wood protection technologies and corrosion prevention systems.
•    Ensure successful transfer of lab-scale formulations to scalable commercial products.

Cross-functional Collaboration & Support
•    Serve as a key liaison to Operations, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Sales, and Marketing to support product launch and performance optimization.
•    Provide technical expertise and leadership in customer engagement, field operations, and troubleshooting.
•    Partner with regulatory consultants and internal teams to prepare data packages for EPA, PMRA, APVMA, and other global regulatory bodies.
Compliance & Industry Engagement
•    Ensure R&D activities align with OSHA, federal, and international regulatory and safety standards.
•    Represent Osmose in industry associations such as AWPA, TWC, and WWPI, contributing to thought leadership and staying current on industry trends.
•    Maintain awareness of environmental stewardship and evolving compliance mandates across all operational regions.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
•    Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Wood Science, or related discipline.
•    Minimum of 10 years of industrial experience, preferably in wood protection or biocides.
•    At least 5 years of experience in a leadership or managerial role, with direct personnel oversight.
•    Demonstrated experience in formulating and registering EPA-regulated biocides.
•    Familiarity with global chemical product regulatory frameworks (e.g., PMRA, APVMA).

Technical & Professional Skills:
•    Deep knowledge of formulation science, product development, and manufacturing scale-up.
•    Strong background in analytical tools and chemical testing; expertise in pesticides or fumigants is a plus.
•    Effective communicator with excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
•    Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset.
