Quality Assurance Inspector

Overview

The Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector will work under the direction of the Manager of Operations to conduct field inspections and testing of in-progress and completed work to assure the quality of services and products delivered to customers. The QA Inspector will make regular field visits and provide detailed reports (including data, images, findings, and recommendations) on wood, steel, and concrete utility structures (poles, towers, padmounted equipment, etc.) Inspections will include above- and below- groundline, concrete pre- and post- pour, and coating evaluations. 

The incumbent can be based anywhere in the Midwest/Mid East Coast (Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee)

Responsibilities

  • Support the efforts of Operations and Engineering to assure the quality of Osmose’s industry-leading steel and wood services.
  • Perform quality control inspections of wood and steel utility structure inspections, and restorations, and repairs.
  • Document inspection and testing results, non-conformance, and other quality-related issues, and communicate these findings, and recommendations for corrective and preventive actions, verbally and in writing to Operations and Engineering.
  • Create field sketches using 2-dimensional CAD programs.
  • Ensure proper products are used as specified on the drawings and in project specifications.
  • Ensure products are utilized and installed per the manufacturer’s requirements.
  • Perform non-destructive concrete and steel testing on structures.
  • Evaluate decay and damage (insect, animal, mechanical) for wood structures.
  • Perform checks on material storage and handling.
  • Perform checks on fabricated items to ensure that fabricators are meeting tolerances and other specifications.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise for the development of standard procedures, work methods, and training of personnel.
  • Additional tasks, projects, and travel in support of other engineering and operations projects and plans, as requested.

Qualifications

  • Experience with materials and construction testing and quality control procedures; specific experience with wood poles, steel, concrete and/or coatings preferred. 
  • Proficiency with computers and computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, and AutoCAD 2D.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to speak clearly and confidently to customers. Must be able to write technical documents using proper style and grammar.
  • Ability to travel 90% - 100% and work varied hours.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, uneven terrain, and exposure to poisonous plants, insects, and allergens.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
