Summary of Position

This highly visible position is responsible for supporting the Treasury team and internal customers with tax calculations, filings, and associated analysis. This position reports to the Manager of Treasury & Tax and will primarily support the calculation and filing of income tax, sales, material & use tax, property tax, GST/HST/PST, VAT and business tax. This role also plays a key part in supporting the Accounting team, the audit process, and working with third party consultants on the income tax provision.

Responsibilities:

  • Review monthly sales & use tax returns to confirm accuracy.
  • Review A/P invoices for use tax liabilities.
  • Prepare monthly material and use tax imports into Avalara.
  • Review and maintain Avalara coding per company related and government related changes.
  • Maintain sales tax exemption certificates.
  • Respond to inquiries from company-wide managers regarding sales & use tax questions.
  • Respond to sales tax notices, assist in data gathering and responses to state sales tax auditors.
  • Prepare and file personal property tax returns.
  • Prepare and file monthly/quarterly/annual CAT, B&O, Excise taxes.
  • Prepare and file monthly/quarterly/annual GST/HST/PST.
  • Support 3rd party preparers of quarterly/annual VAT returns.
  • Work on the cash application process for customers requiring invoice uploads.
  • Generate ad hoc reports, research questions from various sources, and resolve issues.
  • Support income tax filing and work paper documentation.
  • Provide written documentation on project accounting processes and procedures.
  • Work with the accounting team to meet month-end close deadlines.
  • Assist in the formulation of internal controls.
  • Improve systems, procedures, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Establish and maintain files and records to document transactions to assist in audits.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and analytical efforts.
  • Collaborate with managers throughout the company to support overall corporate initiatives and goals.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Two or more years of experience preparing sales/use/state/business taxes in a mid-large sized company.
  • BA/BS in Business Management, Accounting, or Finance from an accredited university.
  • Excellent knowledge of sales and property tax.
  • Working knowledge of accounting and financial processes.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office software to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with ERP systems like NetSuite.
  • Experience with Sales & Use tax (Avalara), Income tax, and fixed asset software.
  • Organized, detail oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills and technological capabilities.
  • Willingness to work extended hours due to seasonal nature of work.
